Project Description

Last week’s Photo Challenge is to the right. Submissions were as follows:

  • Tokyo, Japan ………….  9
  • Paris, France ……….…  1
  • New York City, USA …..  1

The correct answer is Tokyo, Japan. Yes, that’s a mini Statue of Liberty, located at Odaiba, Tokyo. It is only 40 feet tall, about 1/7 the size of the original in New York Harbor. Interestingly, it was erected not with reference to the New York Statue of Liberty but to celebrate Japan’s “French Year in Japan 1998-1999.” This mini statue was dismantled afterward but brought back by popular demand in the year 2000. You can see from the photo the statue, and the Rainbow Bridge behind it, still draws a crowd.

And last week’s winner is: Dr. Apurva Makadiya. Congratulations Apurva!
